Wow, I never witnessed this spartan beast race because that day is the my cousin's birthday. So, I can't attend and join the race. I choose to be with my closest cousin's brithday. But I saw the pics and it was really great. Two thumbs up for that !

Hi Clem,
We talked at the gym. If he could lose 20 pounds the pull-up would become very doable. I would have him do some rigorous training like 10-15 sets of Russian pull-ups(inverted with a bar at 45 degree angle or less on smith machine) making the angle as hard as possible but where he can still get 3-5 reps each time. 2 minutes of rest between sets. TRX Suspension Training would also be helpful.....

Hi, Ian! We have had a discussion about personal fitness. My problem now is my son. He is a Life rank in boy scouts who has completed all of the requiremments but one for his final merit badge personal fitness. The Merit badge counselor insists that Zach has to do one pullup and he is done. The problem is that the kid is 250 pounds and maybe do one pull up on the assisted lat machine at the 100 pound setting. He has shown progress on the machine; however, this is not good enough. Is one pull up in say 2 months doable? Thoughts, advice?

Well funny you should ask that Tony. I have been doing primarily fitness boot camp training(bodyweight, light dumbbell, core, cardio) for about 4 months since I started my own program and the results have been tremendous. I have lost only a small amount of muscle on my arms and everywhere else just got more toned and defined than ever before. And this is with almost no traditional muscle hypertrophy style training. I have to admit I am a little surprised at how well it worked for me to change to this training style and what's great is that my cardio endurance and core strength are now better than ever as well.

I have very bad arthritis in my elbows and nothing seems to work anymore to help cope with the pain. I've read some very interesting reviews for Lyprinol and I was wondering if any of you have ordered from "kiwi drug"?

Thanks Tony. It's amazing how defined and toned you can get without even picking up weights. Focusing on the flexing and contracting of the muscles is truly more important than just pushing and pulling weight around. A perfect example of this is gymnasts. Most gymnasts have incredible muscle tone and definition from consistent gravity weighted exercises.

I had been doing a fair amount of reading about 'gravity' weighted exercises and the use of the more ancient style of yoga with body weight as your main 'sculptor' for those of us out there that want to gain definition but not bulk... Good read.
